Painter and Poet
The Still Point
The Into The Still Point project came into being as a joint project between artist Jo Kimpton and poet Stuart Warner. The seven paintings and seven poems in the series were each influenced by the idea of a still point. This idea is an important theme in both Jo's and Stuart's work.
The paintings are a response to my regular practice of quiet contemplation in nature - oberving the passing of day into night, noticing the movement of colour in the transition of dark into light, and later watching my breath in a morning yoga practice. These natural rhythms are linked by their continuouse ebb and flow, and in the pause between each contraction and expansion there is a moment of purity, of calm clarity - a still point.
There is a space inside us where the mind stops. For me that still point brings a feeling of peace and expansion. It is also a place of creativity where words can come without thought.
Music word and voice
Opening a heart space
Seeking a still point
Inside us
Where silence dwells
And in that silence
All the shades of light and sound
Calling
